What should I keep in mind when charging in public?

Tips on charging etiquette at a public charging station.

Charging at a public charging station? With these charging etiquette tips, you help yourself and other EV drivers.

  • Move your car once it is full. That way, others can charge too. Charging above 80% is also slower and less good for your battery.

  • Only use a charging spot to charge. Don't park there if your car still has enough charge.

  • Don't unplug another EV, unless the owner allows it, for example with a note or an EV parking disc. With Type 2 cables this is usually not possible because of the locking mechanism; with Type 1 cables it sometimes is.

  • Take good care of the charging station. After charging, coil up the cable and hang it back up, so it doesn't get damaged on the ground. Stop your charging session by holding your charge card against the RFID reader.

  • Only use the emergency stop button in a genuine emergency. After an emergency stop, the charging station may be unusable for some time.

  • Communicate with other EV drivers. A note or an EV parking disc helps create mutual understanding.
