With smart charging, your charging station doesn't simply start charging at full power straight away. Charging is automatically adjusted to, for example, the available power, the time of day, the energy price or the output of your solar panels. This saves you money on energy costs and eases the load on the electricity grid.
Smart charging comes in different forms:
Load balancing: the available power is distributed across several charge points, so that your connection or the local grid does not get overloaded. More info: What is Load Balancing?
Solar charging: you charge mainly when your solar panels produce the most. More info: How does Solar Smart Charging work?
Peak shaving and peak shifting: flattening peaks in your consumption or shifting charging to cheaper times. More info: What is peak shaving and peak shifting?
Bidirectional charging (V2G): your car returns electricity to the grid. This is not yet possible today. More info: What is bidirectional charging or V2G?
To charge smartly, you need a smart charging station.
